Rolf Hinzmann, Germany

Rolf Hinzmann studied biochemistry at the University of Hannover, Germany, and completed his PhD in endocrinology at the Max Planck Institute for Experimental Endocrinology in Hannover, Germany. Thereafter, he studied medicine at Hannover Medical University and then specialised in clinical pathology ("laboratory medicine"). After a period at the university lab he moved to the in-vitro diagnostic industry and worked as a Scientific Marketing Manager for Beckman Coulter. Later he was appointed Medical Director of Sysmex Europe. Eleven years ago, he moved to Roche Diabetes Care where he is currently Head of Medical Science, Global Medical & Scientific Affairs. In addition, he has worked as an officer in the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (IFCC) for >20 years, representing the in vitro diagnostic industry in IFCC's Executive Board for 6 years. His areas of scientific interest are diabetology, glucose monitoring, methods to influence patient behaviour, laboratory medicine, traceability, measurement technologies, haematology, and didactics in medicine.
