Hypoglycemia is a common side effect of treatment with insulin or with insulin secretagogues in individuals with diabetes. Severe hypoglycemia is not only linked to a number of adverse “hard” clinical outcomes such as cardiovascular events and higher mortality rates, hypo’s can also negatively impact the quality of life of people with diabetes and their family members. In the presentation, an overview and discussion will be given of the studies that have investigated the impact of hypoglycaemia on different dimensions of quality of life, including fear of hypoglycaemia, emotional well-being and overall quality of life, in persons with type 1 or type 2 diabetes and their family members.
