Adele Schwartz Benzaken is a medical doctor with a PhD degree in Public Health. She has been working with HIV/AIDS and other STIs' prevention, control and care since 1983. She is currently the Director of Department of STIs, HIV/AIDS and Viral Hepatitis of the Ministry of Health of Brazil and a member of the WHO Strategic and Technical Advisory Committee on HIV and Viral Hepatitis. She also contributes to the global response on STIs, HIV/AIDS as an Advisor of the PAHO and as a Vice-Chairperson of the Global EMTCT Validation Committee of HIV and Congenital Syphilis in Latin America and the Caribbean Previously. Adele Schwartz Benzaken was a member of the Expert Panel on STIs, including HIV, at the WHO (Dec/2008 to July/2013), and Programme Officer of the UNAIDS Brazil (April/2012-Nov/2013).
