Shakirul is a migrant activist and a researcher. He has conducted researches on migration and migrants' rights issues including HIV/AIDS aimed to bringing migrants' perspectives and undertaking evidence-based advocacy. He is the founding chair of OKUP, a grassroots migrants' CBO in Bangladesh.
