Plenary: The global epidemics among people who inject drugs: Time for urgent reform. What needs to be done in order to achieve success in one of the most challenging areas of AIDS response? No population has been more neglected and excluded than PWID, and the epidemics of HIV, HCV, TB, among them are consequently not coming under control. There are many failures around the world, at the same time there are confident examples of success addressing PWID needs and taking epidemics under control. Solutions include innovative harm reduction, drug treatment, decriminalization, approaches to improve HIV prevention and treatment for PWID, e.g. through addressing ChemSex and other sexual risks among people who use drugs. Examples of successful sensitizing policy makers and implementing successful and sustainable transition of programs for PWID from donor to domestic resources. A great learning and motivational panel session from around the world looking beyond 2020.
