Through the lived experiences and voices of 8 Indigenous people living with HIV, this poetic short documentary combines storytelling and the healing power of Indigenous culture to reflect on the realities of stigma and discrimination for Indigenous people. The film offers up hope that understanding and compassion will decrease experiences of HIV stigma and discrimination. Most importantly, it will be a way to connect those who made it and those who will watch it, to community, and to culture.

Session Description
Join us as we screen "Pay or Quit" at the Global Village. In 2019 we created this fictional short movie to be used in trainings for street outreach teams. "Pay or Quit" is centered on the story of a Black Trans woman who's experiencing housing insecurity and struggling with addiction. We developed the script with a series of focus groups at CalPEP - the California Prostitutes Education Program - based in West Oakland, California. In late 2020 we'll be fundraising to create two more movies - one centered on the experiences of Black Cis-Women and one on Black Men who have sex with Men. The 2020 landscape of HIV prevention research, development and implementation is complex and dynamic. With efficacy trials of preventive vaccines, broadly neutralizing antibodies (bNAbs), long-acting injectables, pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and multi-purpose prevention technologies (MPTs), to ongoing PrEP rollout, to the integration of sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and HIV, the landscape requires multisectoral engagement and renewed resilience for HIV research and development (R&D) as a key component of the global HIV response.

The Youth Café will help build meaningful, ongoing connections over the full conference period between young researchers, policy-makers, and people living with HIV, which could impact the research and policy agenda. Not only will connections be made, but new ideas for involving youth have the potential to be generated. Ultimately, it will become a place where youth can gather, feel connected over sharing coffee together, and empower each other.

Session Description
Photo exhibition. In theory, the prognosis for a person diagnosed with HIV, Hepatitis C or TB is now better than it ever has been. In reality, that depends on where you live and who you are. Access to medicines is not equitable. Millions of people die each year because essential drugs are overpriced. Scientific advancements are worthless if they are out of reach. When health budgets won't stretch to treat everyone in need, the most vulnerable are left behind. Treatment activists around the world are fighting patent barriers to make medicines affordable. We won’t stop until everyone can access the life-saving medicines they deserve. www.makemedicinesaffordable.org

At this booth, you will learn about the work we do, how to get engaged, why youth participation in the AIDS response matters in 2020, and how we can mobilize transnational youth solidarity to end AIDS by 2030. You will meet our steering committee members, who represent different member organizations, and learn about the work they do to end AIDS by 2030.
