Dr. Vlassenko was trained in neurology and neuroimaging and collaborated on various projects at clinical and research centers throughout the world, including The Scientific Research Institute of Neurology (Moscow, Russia), CYCERON Center (Caen, France), and Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (New York, USA). During his work in the Department of Radiology at Washington University, he have conducted and analyzed positron emission tomography studies of glucose and oxygen metabolism, cerebral blood flow, and aerobic glycolysis in cognitively normal adults of various ages as well as in patients with neurological and psychiatric disorders including brain tumors and Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Main research focus is aging and neurodegenerative disorders. Specific research interests include evaluating regulation and functional reserve of brain metabolism, blood flow and aerobic glycolysis using positron emission tomography in cognitively normal aging and neurodegenerative disorders; establishing metabolic markers of brain resilience to aging and AD; and evaluating the relationship between brain metabolism and various biomarkers of AD.
