My research path began when I was studying Biology in the University of Malaga, Spain (2007-2013), where my interest in Neuroscience grew and I started working in the group of Dr. Antonia Gutierrez, focused on Alzheimer’s disease pathological mechanisms. After finishing my master’s degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology (University of Malaga, Spain, 2013-2014), my phD was centered on the role of microglia in the progression of Alzheimer’s disease in transgenic mouse models. During that time, I had the opportunity to be a visiting researcher at the University of California Irvine, at Frank LaFerla’s lab (2017), where I worked with their sporadic AD murine model. Since 2020, I have carried out my postdoctoral research at Lund University (Sweden) in the lab of Dr. Malin Wennström, focusing on how IAPP, a peptide mainly related with type-2 diabetes, affects brain vessels and how it may underlie the increased risk of Alzheimer’s in diabetic patients.
